Trunk Bay is truly one of the world’s most beautiful stretches of white sand and turquiose water to grace the planet. We cannot stress how incredibly gorgeous this place is! The sand is like sugar, the clear calm waters gentle, and the coconut palms swaying in the breeze provide a fantastic backdrop to this postcard perfect place.
Trunk Bay was once a private beach complete with its own NO TRESPASSING sign, but thanks to Laurence Rockefeller who gifted the property to the Virgin Islands National Park, today it is protected from development and is open to the public (you’ll pay a small fee if you arrive on foot).
Trunk Bay is an absolute must for any snorkeler, especially beginners. Trunk Bay offers a self-guided 675-ft. snorkeling trail with large underwater signs that identify species of coral and other marine life that you’ll find as you swim the trail. Fish survey volunteers report that on average, you’ll see about 30 distinctly different species of fish, turtle, rays, corals, and more!
We recommend you try the snorkel early in the day to avoid the crowds. You can swim to shore here and relax on the sand, enjoy some lunch from the snack bar and even pick up a souvenir from the gift shop.
