St. Thomas Nightlife
The party in St. Thomas never stops! As the sun sinks into the Caribbean sea and the boats are docked for the night, a new kind of fun begins! The transition from swim suits to evening wear isn’t a big one; St. Thomas Nightlife is always casual. Throw on some shorts and follow the sound of the karaoke machine! A night out in St. Thomas always includes a mix of American hits and Caribbean music, steel drum bands, delicious food, rum laced exotic cocktails and the warm, gentle breeze of the Caribbean night.
If you’re looking for a great place to enjoy some fun with your friends in the U.S. Virgin Islands, St. Thomas is definitely the place to be. While the night scene here is totally different from the nightlife in the big cities, it’s a blast. A great way to start the evening fun is with a happy hour at one of many bars and restaurants overlooking the Caribbean sea.
Charlotte Amalie, the island’s hub and main town that is buzzing with tourists during the day is transformed to an ambient bricked-road bar and restaurant district at night. Restaurant and bars are in walking distance from each other, especially along the waterfront area. On the outskirts of Charlotte Amalie, Havensight to the east and Frenchtown to the west are also popular nightspots. Havensight offers live bands, great sports bars, gourmet restaurants, pool tables and dart boards. Frenchtown has a number of great restaurants with a few small bars like the famous Epernay.
Want to bar hop “block party” style? Then Red Hook in the east-end has you covered. Known for being St. Thomas’ bar district, Red Hook is stuffed with bars that are walking distance from each other. Some of the popular bars in the neighborhood are Molly Malone’s, Caribbean Saloon and Duffy’s Love Shack. The unwritten rule to having a good time in Red Hook is starting off with dinner and some drinks at one spot, then moving the party for more drinks at another bar and another one, and another one….until the sun comes up!
If you’d rather hang out at the hotel, you can still live it up. Resorts and hotels in St. Thomas offer great nightlife–some even have casinos! Most of them offer bars, pool tables, restaurants and karaokes for patrons and friends. Some throw calypso parties with steel drum bands and mocko jumbie dancers.
Bars and restaurants are not the only to go if you want to enjoy your evenings in St. Thomas. Plays, orchestras, ballets, carnivals and other live performances are also available throughout the year at theatres and performance arts centers.
The nightlife in St. Thomas is something different and unique. No matter where you go, always be careful not to flash cash around and stay with a group. Take a cab if you’ve had some cocktails, stay in the touristy areas and stay safe!
