The waters of North Sound, Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands epitomize tranquility. Add lush green hills and pristine white beaches as the backdrop, and you have yourself a perfect tropical paradise. Now, add a fantastic bar and restaurant–Saba Rock–and you’ve got heaven on a map.
What’s so great about Saba Rock? Well, it’s one of the few establishments that you’ll find at North Sound. Equal parts resort, restaurant and bar, Saba Rock sits atop a tiny island–less than an acre and a half in size–and uses literally every single square inch of land. It’s an islet, which means it’s only accessible by private boat, ferry, dingy or by swimming in.
Saba Rock Bar is built out over the water with an amazing view of the bay and the sounds of the ocean are the bar’s natural soundtrack. Lounge furniture sits at the water’s edge, which makes a great setting for some limin’ with friends over a cold drink. A spacious wooden bar means room for anyone who wanders in and adds to the incredibly laid back vibe, and the breeze blows through in the afternoon.
The cocktail menu is made up of Virgin Islands specials like Painkillers, Bushwackers and Rum Punches, as well as familiar drinks such as Dark & Stormies and Coco Locos. As remote as this little island bar may be, they have a surprisingly big rum selection. Patrons are offered imports like Mount Gay XO and Zacapa 23, as well as everything from the local Cruzan distilleries. You’ll also find premiums like Bacardi, Don Q, Appleton, Abuelo and Goslings. And for a great souvenir, grab a bottle or two from their signature line of Saba Rock Gold Rums.
The restaurant at Saba Rock has a great menu, where every dish is prepared with the freshest ingredients that feature seafood, fried and grill favorites. Try tropical mahi mahi tacos, Barbados cheeseburger served with crisp fries, and jerk mahi mahi wrap with sweet peppers, along with some pretty unique Caribbean fare–conch pasta, barbecue ribs and steak.
Perched on top of a little island, Saba Rock bar and restaurant at the North Sound, Virgin Gorda in the BVIs is literally an island paradise. The cozy lounge-bar set up, wide selection of drinks and exquisite dining makes this remote bar and restaurant the perfect escape–even just for a day.
