If you’re after world class snorkeling, set sail for Coki Beach on St Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands.
At Coki Beach, the water is teeming with tropical fish, a soft sandy bottom and gorgeous reefs, thanks to its proximity to Coral World, a marine life theme park featuring underwater observatories and educational exhibits. Coki Beach is known for some of the best snorkeling in all the Caribbean Sea. The water here is typically very calm, and is very user-friendly, no matter you’re swimming ability. Most of the water here is less than 20 feet deep with little or no current, so its a great place for beginners. There are deeper reefs offshore, where you’ll find more experienced snorkelers and divers. Be sure to go before or after the cruise ship crowd–this area can get really crowded! There’s a wonderful coral garden located about 20 yards off the beach that’s not to be missed. Swim to shore to enjoy the snack bar, clean restrooms and showers, and the “at your chair or towel” wait service!
